How to Take a Pick-Up AND Wash Impression for Partial Denture

  1. Prepare the Partial Denture

    • Clean the partial denture, ensuring the fitting surface is free of debris.

    • Check for proper fit of any clasps, rests, or attachments.

  2. Prepare the Tray

    • Select an appropriate impression tray that fits over the partial denture.

    • If needed, adjust the tray to accommodate the partial denture without impinging on soft tissues.

  3. Apply Adhesive to the Tray

    • Apply tray adhesive to ensure the wash impression material adheres properly to the tray.

    • Apply adhesive to intaglio

  4. Seat the Partial Denture

    • Insert the partial denture into the patient’s mouth, ensuring it is seated properly on the existing teeth and tissues.

  5. Mix and Apply the Wash Impression Material

    • Mix a low-viscosity (wash) impression material.

    • Apply impression material under the saddle/intaglio of partial

    • Seat in patients mouth

    • Apply it evenly into the impression tray and around the partial denture, especially around the fitting surface and clasps.

  6. Take the Impression

    • Insert the loaded impression tray over the partial denture, ensuring the tray covers the partial denture and surrounding tissue areas.

  7. Allow Material to Set

    • Wait for the impression material to fully set without disturbing the partial denture or tray.

  8. Remove the Tray and Partial Denture Together

    • Gently remove the impression tray with the partial denture picked up inside the impression.

  9. Inspect the Impression

    • Examine the impression to ensure it has captured the partial denture and relevant tissue areas accurately, including clasps and borders.

  10. Disinfect the Impression

    • Disinfect the impression thoroughly before sending it to the lab.
