Thermoplastic Flexible Partial Denture Adjustment Techniques:

1. Common Adjustment Issues

  • Open Bite: Check occlusion and reduce as needed.

  • Overextended Flange: Trim flange accordingly.

  • Clasp Tightness: Adjust by submerging in hot water, bending, and cooling.

2. Adjustment Procedure

  • Use specialized burs designed for thermoplastics.

  • Set hand piece to low speed (32,000 to 35,000 rpm) for light, constant motion scraping.

  • Avoid excessive pressure to prevent burning or distortion.

  • Rubber wheels or points are effective for smoothing and polishing.

  • Threads can be removed with a sharp blade if present.

3. Recommended Adjustment Tools

  • Carbide Burs: for cutting through thermoplastics.

  • Green Mounted Stones: ideal for chairside adjustments.

  • Large and Small Rubber Points: for smoothing surfaces.

  • Carving Knife: to remove fibers during adjustment.
